Everyone who uses a phone knows how fast the Apple phone charging cords break and they are expensive. After mine started fraying I did some research and found an inexpensive way to fix the cord. Anyone can do this. No special skills needed.
I refused to pay another $29 for a phone charging cord. I have the long cord so it is just about $30 to replace. That is crazy. I could get almost a tank of gas for that.
After reading reviews and looking at pages and pages of product I opted for the Carbite Cable Collar from Amazon. Once again Amazon to the rescue. The 3 pack cost me $10.64. Isn’t this better than $29? I fixed 2 different cords and I still have a spare.
I have to say these cable collars are very sturdy and come with a metal strip so you can connect them to a magnet. I have my cord plugged into an outlet behind the nightstand and many times the cord falls behind it. The set comes with little mini magnets that you stick to the back of the nightstand to hold the cord while not in use.

The package also comes with nice detailed photo instructions to make the repair very easy. You can’t mess it up.

Basically, you take the cable collar from the package and place it over the frayed part of the cord. You will need a blow dryer to heat up the silicone part to adhere to the cord. All you have to do is heat it for a few minutes and you are all set. Make sure you remove the nozzle from your blow dryer, otherwise it won’t work.
The end result is a nice sturdy fixed phone cord.

There is nothing more satisfying than coming up with ways to fix what you have. Is it easier to run out to buy a replacement item? Of course, but fixing things you have not only saves you money but it also reduces the trash in the landfill.
Do yourself a favor and try it out!
